Ophir Win in Dramatic Fashion!

Saturday 27th of January saw Ophir 1st team against Coleraine 2nds in the Forster Plate.

The weather was in fine form, especially as this match had to be postponed from the previous week due to frozen pitches.

The game started evenly with both teams having an equal amount of ball and no team having a good opportunity to score. About 20 minutes in however, a lapse in Ophir concentration and good running from Coleraine, the first score of the match went to Coleraine who unfortunatley couldn't capitalize with the conversion.

0-5

Galvanised by their try, Coleraine went on the attack however Ophir fronted up and withstood an onslaught. With an unfortunate lapse in concentration again, near the end of the half, Coleraine scored again and again, weren't able to get the conversion.

0-10

A quick halftime team talk by the Ophir Coaches made it clear that this game was still winnable, and something must have clicked as soon after the restart Ophir scored. No conversion meant it was starting to get (to coin a phrase), Squeaky Bum Time.

5-10

Knowing that this game was still very much undecided, both teams attacked and defended with great gusto however making a fine break in the game line, Ophir scored again to make 10-10, and scored the conversion.

12-10

With all to play for and 15 minutes left, Coleraine threw everything but the kitchen sink at Ophir, but the all round defending from Ophir meant Ophir sucked up the pressure.

Last play of the match and it was Coleraine's Ball but a tackle made and an excellent steal from Ophir meant that an Ophir win was the outcome of a fantastic match by both sides.

We now look forward to hosting CIYMS 2nds on the 03rd of Feb.
