Ophir
Sevens 2008

THE
wet weather didn't dampen spirits at the annual
Ophir Sevens tournament on Saturday where Instonians
produced some fantastic rugby to win the Will Totten
Memorial Trophy.
Although
conditions were far from ideal, a large turnout
of spectators still enjoyed a great day of sevens
action.
The
youth (under 18) tournament in the morning saw hosts
Ophir take on teams from Ballyclare, Belfast Harlequins,
Carrick, Malone and Randalstown.
In
the semi-finals Randalstown enjoyed a comfortable
win over Ophir, while Harlequins edged out Malone
by a single score. And it was the Belfast side who
went on to take the trophy, winning a thrilling
final by 19 points to 7.
At
senior level it was Instonians who came out on top,
comfortably winning their group before disposing
of Queen's 29-0 in the semi-final.
The
other half of the draw saw Dungannon and Ballynahinch
make the semi-final, with the latter scraping into
the final on a 17-10 scoreline.
In
the final Instonians showed their class, cruising
to a comfortable win to take the Will Totten Memorial
Trophy.
Officials
at Ophir expressed their thanks to sponsors Newtownabbey
Borough Council, Biffa and Kukri, as well as all
those who helped out on the day to make the tournament
such a great success.
