The New Breed of Ophir Under 12s took to the pitch at Lisburn Rugby Club on Sunday afternoon and as this was the boys first game together they were slow to start and let the hosts in with an early try. Some great first up tackling and rucking held Lisburn at bay until Mark Campbell broke through the Lisburn defence and thundered over for a Try.
Unfortunately for the Ophir Team right on the stroke of half-time they conceded a second try in the corner after a good rumble from Lisburns forwards.
Half time
Lisburn 2 - 1 Ophir
Lisburn kicked off the second half with the wind and fortunately for Ophir this went too far and resulted in a scrum . Ophir forwards worked hard in the scrum to get the ball back and Thomas Irvine playing at scrum half passed out wide and Oscar Gossrau charged through the line and then passed to Paul Adams who was tackled just short of the line .
From the resulting line out Ophir claimed the ball and Thomas Irvine nipped in to level the score. At this stage the Ophir boys had the upper hand and scored again through Mark Campbell with his second try of the game .
This seemed to spur Lisburn into gear and they came back with 2 quick Tries to leave the score at 4-3 with 5mins to go .
But , the never say die attitude from Ophir came when from a high tackle resulting in a penalty the forwards drove the ball down the pitch and Nathan Carmichael scored in the corner .
As the game was drawing to an end and the scores level Ophir dug deep and kept the ball in hand and ran at Lisburn to try and find a gap and eventually they got through with ball being moved from one side of the pitch to the other resulting in a winning try for Big Stephen .
The Final whistle went and Ophir had recorded a hard fought win which is a Brilliant achievement for a side having only been put together.
Thanks to All the Parents for coming along to support the boys on the day and a Big Well Done to the boys for their effort on the pitch.
