Ophir’s senior men wrapped up their league campaign with a spirited but ultimately disappointing 47-36 defeat home to Civil Service 2XV.
Despite showing flashes of attacking flair and determination throughout, Ophir couldn’t quite match the clinical finishing of their Civil Service.
The game was a high-scoring affair from the outset, with both sides trading tries in a fast-paced first half. Ophir’s backline looked dangerous with ball in hand, and the pack worked tirelessly at the breakdown, but a few defensive lapses allowed Civil Service to stretch their lead in the second period.
In total, Ophir crossed the whitewash six times, showing plenty of character to stay in the contest until the final whistle. However, Civil Service proved too strong on the day, finishing the game with a commanding 11-point margin.
The result marked the end of an era, as it was also the final game in charge for Head Coach Stuart Hooks. Stuart has been a committed and passionate figure at the club, bringing structure, energy, and no shortage of humour to his role on and off the pitch.
Everyone at Ophir RFC extends their heartfelt thanks to Stuart for his contribution and leadership.
We move forward now, proud of the fight shown today, and excited for what’s to come as the club begins a new chapter.
