Ophir Women's Rugby Tour Weekend with Cheshunt Rugby Club

Ophir Women's Rugby Tour Weekend with Cheshunt Rugby Club

Ian Dinsmore

Women's Rugby

There's nothing quite like a good rugby tour, and this past weekend delivered exactly that. Ophir Women, proud to be the longest established women's rugby team in the Newtownabbey area, packed their bags and headed off for a weekend hosted by the brilliant Cheshunt Rugby Club.

From the moment we arrived, it was clear we were in good hands. The weekend had everything a proper tour should: a hard-fought game on the pitch, no shortage of craic between the two clubs, and an outstanding BBQ that capped things off perfectly. Add in a weekend full of laughter, some brand new friendships formed, a few stories that'll be retold for years, and - inevitably - a handful of sore heads by Sunday morning, and you've got a trip nobody on the squad will forget in a hurry.

Touring is about more than just the match itself. It's the shared bus journeys, the team dinners, the getting-to-know-you chats with players from another club who turn out to have exactly the same sense of humour as you do. Weekends like this are what make being part of a rugby club so special, and they're a big part of why our players keep coming back season after season.

A huge thank you goes out to everyone at Cheshunt Rugby Club for their generosity, organisation, and all-round hospitality in hosting us. Tours like this only work because of clubs willing to open their doors to visiting teams, and Cheshunt did that in style. We wish them every success for the rest of their season.

Interested in Joining Our Squad?

Moments like this weekend are exactly why we love being part of this club, and we're always keen to welcome new faces into the fold. Whether you've played rugby for years or have never picked up a ball before, there's a place for you here.

Our squad is built on players of every background and ability, all training together, supporting each other, and - as this past weekend proved - having a brilliant time along the way.

If a weekend like this sounds like your kind of rugby, we'd love to hear from you. Get in touch today to find out more about training sessions, upcoming fixtures, and how you can become part of the area's original women's rugby club.
