demonstrating why they are one of the top teams in Section 3 in the Kukri Qualifying League.
For the first 20 minutes of the game the Ophir defence stood up well to the strength and skill of the Limavady attack , but a breakthrough was inevitable. Ophir's scrummage had more than matched the opposition but then the Limavady pack gained some momentum from a driving maul and the pass to the inside centre put him in under the posts. The try was easily converted by the full back and within 5 minutes he had to repeat his effort from a slightly more difficult angle. 14 - 0 to Limavady and they ran in two more tries before Ophir, supported by MCW Properties and Biffa, finished the half strongly, pressing the visitors line but unluckily failing to break through the tough defence.
28 points to Limavady without reply and it didn't take long for them to add more in the second half. The left wing wriggled through two attempted tackles before touching down. 5 minutes later Limavady scored again close to the touchline and for the first time, the full back was unable to add the conversion. Showing tremendous commitment, Ophir stuck to their task and took play back to the Limavady 22, but once again their efforts were in vain, stifled by the visitors disciplined defence. Back came Limavady and again their inside centre was put clear to score under the posts. The conversion ended the scoring but at least Ophir finished the match on the attack, showing tremendous team spirit but sadly, hitting a brick wall. The final score Ophir 0, Limavady 47.
On the adjacent pitch, Ophir Seconds played well against a good Banbridge Fourths but lost narrowly 10 points to 7.
