After a positive pre-season Ophir travelled away to face a strong Donaghadee 2XV looking to put what had been practiced into play.
Unfortunately, the first ten minutes were all Donaghadee and Ophir defended very well but couldn't hold forever and eventually conceded from the Donaghadee battery. Shortly after this a Dee player received a yellow card for a deliberate knock on and Ophir kicked to the corner. The resulting maul fell just short of the line but it didn't take long for Ophir to score after this with a cross field kick from out-half Ronan Sands falling to Joe McCartan who offloaded to captain Liam Cosgrave to score in the corner. For most of the first half after this both teams still had some pre-season cobwebs testing each others defences but neither team producing much until the end of the first half where the pressure proved too much for Ophir with Donaghadee scoring twice before the break.
The second half began with more of the same with Ophir putting up a strong defensive effort but Donaghadee were clinical enough to get another try. As the second half progressed Ophir forced a turnover off a scrum and were able to swiftly counter attack with the ball going through the hands and ending up with Liam Cosgrave scoring again under the posts. Donaghadee followed this with a score of their own. Around the 60 minute mark the Ophs ran a textbook set piece play off a linout around the halfway line which resulted in another cross field kick travelling from Ronan Sands to Joe McCartan, this time around Joe was able to score himself, darting over the line. For the rest of the second half, Ophir had emptied the tank and both sides resorted to playing the kicking game with both sides having unforced errors. Dee were able to secure two more tries in this period of play as the Ophs got increasingly fatigued.
